Is my data uploaded to a server?

No, absolutely not. All file processing happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your data never leaves your device, making this tool completely safe for sensitive information.

What formulas are supported?

Formulas start with =. The editor evaluates real expressions, not just single function calls: arithmetic (=A1+B1, =A1*2, =(A1+B1)/2, =A1^2) with the usual operator precedence and parentheses, cell references and ranges (=SUM(A1:A10), =MAX(A1,B4)), text joining with & (=A1&" "&B1), comparisons (=A1>10) and conditions (=IF(A1>10,"yes","no")). The functions are SUM, PRODUCT, AVERAGE (or AVG), MEDIAN, COUNT, COUNTA, MIN, MAX, ABS, SQRT, POWER, ROUND, ROUNDUP, ROUNDDOWN, IF, CONCAT, LEN, UPPER, LOWER and TRIM, and they nest (=ROUND(AVERAGE(A1:A10),2)). A formula may point at a cell holding another formula, and at a cell on another sheet: write the sheet name before an exclamation mark, as in =Data!A1 or ='My Sheet'!A1:A10. A name the workbook does not have shows #REF!. A reference cycle shows #CYCLE, division by zero shows #DIV/0!, and anything the editor cannot parse shows #ERROR. There are no pivot tables, macros, charts, VLOOKUP or date functions.

Can I open Excel files?

Yes! You can import both.xlsx and.xls Excel files directly. They will be converted for editing and you can export back to Excel format when done.

Is there a file size limit?

The tool works best with files under 100,000 rows. Larger files may cause slower performance as all processing happens in your browser.

Can I undo my changes?

Yes! Use Ctrl+Z (or Cmd+Z on Mac) to undo changes. The editor keeps up to 50 undo states, so you can safely experiment with your data.

What export formats are available?

You can export your spreadsheet as CSV, TSV, or Excel (.xlsx) format. Choose the format that matches your workflow when you click the Export button.

Can I use this spreadsheet editor on mobile devices?

Yes, the editor is fully responsive and works on tablets and phones. You can scroll through cells, tap to edit, and use the toolbar for row and column operations. For the best experience with large files, a desktop or tablet screen is recommended.

Does the editor support multiple sheets or tabs?

The editor works with a single sheet at a time. If your Excel file contains multiple sheets, the first sheet is loaded by default. For multi-sheet workflows, consider using a desktop spreadsheet application.

How do I convert a CSV file to Excel format?

Open your CSV file in the editor, review and edit the data if needed, then click Export and select Excel (.xlsx) as the output format. You can also use the dedicated CSV to Excel converter for a quicker one-step conversion.

Does this spreadsheet editor require a signup with no limits?

No. The FindUtils Spreadsheet Editor works with no signup, no usage limits, and no premium tiers. All features including formula support, find and replace, and Excel export are available to every user.
